Kinetico K5 vs. A200: Which Drinking Water System Fits Your Home?
If you want better-tasting water for drinking, coffee and cooking, an under-sink reverse osmosis system is usually the place to start. Kinetico makes two that we install most often: the K5 Drinking Water Station and the AquaKinetic A200. Both are good systems. The right one depends on your kitchen and how your household uses water.
What both systems have in common
Both are under-sink reverse osmosis systems with a dedicated drinking water faucet
Both use quick-disconnect filter cartridges, so filter changes are quick and clean
Both treat water at the kitchen tap for drinking and cooking, not the whole house
The Kinetico K5
The K5 is the customizable option. Beyond its standard filters and carbon post-filter, it can take add-on cartridges chosen to match what your water test finds, and it can be expanded later if your needs change. Kinetico's QuickFlo technology gives a strong flow at the faucet, and the system makes more than 40 gallons a day. Its EverClean rinse is designed to keep water quality consistent and help the membrane last longer. It suits larger households, heavy coffee and ice use, and homes whose water needs more than standard filtration.
The Kinetico A200
The A200 is the simpler, fixed setup: three stages, a prefilter (one version for city water, one for well water), a reverse osmosis membrane and a carbon post-filter. It shuts off automatically when its storage tank is full, which saves water, and its compact design fits under most sinks or in a utility room or garage. It suits smaller kitchens and households that want reliable drinking water without extra options.
How to choose
Start with your water test. What is in your water decides which filters you need.
Look under your sink. Cabinet space can make the decision for you.
Think about how you use water. More people, more coffee and an ice maker point toward the K5.
Plan for upkeep. Both need periodic filter changes. We can handle those for you.
You can see both side by side on our Kinetico systems comparison page.
Need treated water at every tap?
Under-sink systems treat drinking water only. If you want treated water throughout the home, ask about whole house reverse osmosis.
