How to Choose a Water Softener for Your Palm Beach Home

A water softener is one of the most common upgrades in South Florida homes, and one of the easiest to get wrong. The wrong size or type means spots that keep coming back and salt you did not need to buy. Here is what to look at before you choose.

1. How hard your water actually is

Hardness varies a lot across Palm Beach and Broward County, and well water is often harder than city water. A water test tells you how hard your water is, which decides how much softening capacity you need.

2. How many people live in the home

More people means more showers, laundry and dishes. A softener needs to keep up with your busiest mornings, not just an average day.

3. Whether you have other water issues

Hardness rarely shows up alone. If you also have iron stains, a sulfur smell or a chlorine taste, the softener may need to work alongside other treatment. See our hard water treatment and advanced water treatment pages.

4. How the system regenerates

Softening systems clean themselves on a cycle called regeneration. Some regenerate on a timer whether you used water or not. Others regenerate based on how much water you actually used. Ask how a system decides when to regenerate.

5. Power, space and upkeep

Think about where the system will go, whether it needs electricity, and how often it needs salt. Kinetico softeners are non-electric, which many homeowners like during South Florida storm season.
